What is Kumihimo?

Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese form of braiding.  Kumihimo is Japanese for "gathering threads".    The original tool used for braiding was a Marudai ~ a wooden stool with a hole in the middle using wooden, weighted bobbins for tension.  We now use a portable foam disk with slits that give you the tension.  We teach classes at Sparkleez Crystals on basic Kumihimo Braiding and also Braiding with Beads.

Kumihimo braiding with beads can create endless possibilities.  Since I started doing Kumihimo with beads I look at every bead at a bead show with new eyes!

Sparkleez Crystals is a Bead Smith distributor and carry all of their Kumihimo supplies including disks, bobbins S-Lon cording, big eye needles, bead mats and of course beads!!!
